Our business idea focuses on reducing food waste while helping people in need. We partner with bakeries, grocery stores, and food retailers to collect products that are near their or on their expiration date but still safe. These items are then redistributed at affordable prices to people who may want to buy cheaper food or donated to individuals and families who may be struggling to access edible food on a daily basis. By collecting perfectly edible food that would otherwise go to waste and storing and distributing them in an cheaper market value, we address two pressing issues: food insecurity and environmental impact. Our service ensures that businesses minimize losses from unsold inventory while contributing to a social cause. For consumers, we provide an opportunity to purchase discounted, high-quality food responsibly. We aim to operate with strict food safety standards, including proper storage, timely transportation, and transparent labeling to ensure that all distributed items are safe for consumption. Over time, we aim to expand our network, develop an app for easy access to discounted items, and collaborate with community organizations to reach more people in need. Our mission is simple: give food a second chance, reduce waste, and make nutritious food accessible to everyone, creating a sustainable and socially responsible food ecosystem

In the Netherlands, food waste remains a significant issue. In 2020, approximately 2,811 kilotons of food were discarded, equating to about 161 kilograms per person annually. Consumers alone were responsible for discarding around 33.4 kilograms of solid food per person each year . This not only contributes to environmental degradation but also represents a missed opportunity to address food insecurity. Simultaneously, many individuals face challenges accessing affordable, nutritious food. While the Netherlands boasts a relatively low prevalence of undernourishment at 2.5% , disparities exist, and certain communities experience higher levels of food insecurity. Our initiative seeks to bridge this gap by rescuing near-expiry, yet safe-to-consume, food from local bakeries, grocery stores, and restaurants. These products are then redistributed to individuals in need, either through discounted sales or direct donations. By doing so, we aim to reduce food waste, support local businesses, and provide affordable food options to underserved communities. Through this approach, we not only mitigate environmental impact but also foster a more equitable food system, ensuring that surplus food reaches those who need it most.
