PrototypingThe Challenge
The Netherlands has one of the worst water qualities in the EU when it comes to ground and surface water. Especially the excessive use of fertilisers has resulted in 40% of samples exceeding the EU limit of nitrate concentration. Too much nitrate is unhealthy, harms ecosystems and destroys biodiversity.
The solution
We aim to build an activated-carbon and micro-algae-based filtration system that captures and removes nitrate from canals. By leveraging the positive characteristics of activated carbon and micro-algae, nitrate can be converted into biomass, oxygen and clean water. The floating system operates passively without interfering in daily farm operations and can be deployed right between agricultural fields for site-specific treatment and targeted remediation.
Mission
Our mission is to support farmers in their challenge of meeting EU standards and improving overall water quality.
