The proposed social business is a network platform connecting three types of social enterprises (SEs) to boost their collective impact. Impact SEs directly create social value but struggle financially due to limited value capture and risk mission drift. Business SEs generate profitable income through non-social core operations but face challenges in using their profits effectively for social good. Value chain SEs focus on making their supply chains more socially responsible but lack connections and information to collaborate efficiently. This platform enables business SEs to donate a small portion of their income to impact SEs, empowering specialized social impact providers without diluting resources or focus. Simultaneously, the platform fosters partnerships among SEs along different stages of the value chain to jointly advance sustainability goals with better information and collaboration. By bridging gaps between funding, specialization, and value chain responsibility, the network helps SEs sustain, scale, and enhance social impact more productively and transparently. This collaborative ecosystem supports mission alignment, financial stability, and sustainability across social enterprises, accelerating systemic social good.
- there are businesses in the world that want to create social impact. we call them social enterprisees (SEs). - Some SEs provide direct social impact through their operations. But because they tend to capture less of the value that they are creating (through lower prices, or because their customers may not have the means to pay a lot), they face difficulties in staying afloat, expanding, or experience mission drift as they let go of the business's control to investor preferenecs. (lets call them impact SEs). - Some SEs try to use the income from their normal business operations to generate other ways to do social impact, outside of their core business (lets call them business SEs). As their core operations are not necessarily social (but are high value- capturing and profitable), they often struggle to use their income productively in creating social impact. - Some SEs try to make their value chain more socially responsible and sustainable (lets call them value chain SEs). But they lack information and connections to other SEs who specialize in other levels of their value chain and might be able to help them become more sustainable. What if we could build a network or platform that connects all of these SEs (businesses that want to do social good) so that these SEs can help each other achieve their core missions better? The platform will allow: - Business SEs to donate a small portion of their income to a broad group of impact SEs. who already specialize in directly providing social impact. - Also, the network will help connect SEs in different stages of the value chain so that they can partner up and make their value chain truly sustainable.
