Safelder is a digital safety platform for the elderly, available as both a website and mobile app. It tackles two urgent issues: technology adoption and online fraud targeting seniors. Key Features: 1. Digital Learning Hub: simple, step-by-step courses on using gadgets (e.g., setting up WhatsApp, recognizing scams, managing online banking). 2. Community & Connection: safe chat rooms, interest-based groups, and AI-powered suggestions for suitable communities. Families can connect directly, with emergency contacts integrated. 3. Memory Vault: a personalized space to store important information (birthdays, contacts, notes, life stories) with interactive quizzes and games to support memory retention. 4. Fraud Protection: smart tools to detect suspicious calls or messages and alert users, reducing their risk of becoming scam victims. Impact: We empower seniors to use technology confidently, strengthen family bonds, and protect them from fraud while reducing the burden on families who often struggle to guide their parents.

Problem Elderly people are disproportionately vulnerable to fraud and digital exclusion. In the Netherlands: - 11% of seniors (65+) have already been victims of online fraud, while 71% fear becoming a victim (SeniorWeb). - Annually, around 31,000 elderly people (60+) are successfully swindled, often via phone or doorstep scams, with 125,000 fraud attempts at the door and 250,000 via phone (NU.nl). - Nationwide, 2.4 million Dutch citizens were victims of online crime in 2024, equal to 9.4% of the population, and this number continues to grow (CBS, NL Times). Globally, the digital fraud prevention market is forecasted to grow substantially, and older populations are increasing. This means more seniors will require tools to protect their money, identity, and well-being. Families also face frustration and stress, as they often struggle to guide parents or grandparents through digital technology. Solution My solution is a mobile and web app with the initial mission of protecting elderly people from online scams and then empowering them to live more connected, fulfilling lives. - Awareness & Education: Safelder provides step-by-step online courses and video tutorials to reinforce digital literacy and scam awareness. In addition, we aim to connect elderly users with young volunteers worldwide who can offer offline support in using gadgets. - Fraud Protection Technology: Safelder are going to develop smart tools to detect suspicious phone calls and issue real-time alerts, as well as warn users when they are about to enter potentially fraudulent websites. - Community & Family Connection: Safelder offers safe chat spaces where seniors can connect with like-minded peers, share passions, and stay directly in touch with family members. A dedicated “Memory Vault” lets seniors store important details such as emergency contacts, family birthdays, and life notes. Interactive quizzes and reminders help them retain this information and strengthen memory. In combination, this app starts with a clear objective: preventing elderly fraud. Beyond that, it enriches seniors’ lives by guiding them toward a safer, happier, and more socially connected final stage of life.
